Homemade Frame

I decided to be crafty one day so I decided to make baby girl a frame for her room. I used the directions at the following website as a guide. The one inch punch papered frame

After a trip to Hobby Lobby to get some paper and after making some mod podge with glue and water, I got to work. I used my new Cricut to make the pieces rather than purchasing a separate punch to do them by hand. The homemade mod podge may not hold as long as store bought but it's a learning curve for me since I have never made it before. For the edges of the frame and the back I painted it brown and then one layer of hot pink on top of it after it dried to give it a darker pink color. Then I began the process of gluing each and every piece of cut paper onto the frame. While this felt like it was never ending, I am pleased with the outcome. Pretend the picture in the middle is my family and that's the final product :).

Monster Bookmarks

I admit it...I am hopelessly addicted to Pinterest. There are so many wonderful ideas for so many different activities and meals and, well, everything you can think of and it's hard to not look at all the cool stuff. Today (since I had nothing else to do) I made a couple of bookmarks that I have been eyeing. It took me a while to find some good instructions because people put one pin on top of another pin and the last person in the chain is stuck searching for the actual instructions. After I found the correct step by step, I got to work. I want to make more for Bucky to take to Kindergarten next year for books they are reading or for little gifts or whatever may come along. I did learn today that it may be best to cut out a lot of pieces and then line them up like an assembly line. So keep this in mind if you are interested in trying this craft. Once all the pieces are cut, it's only a matter of folding and gluing the pieces into place.

I found the tutorial with pictures here: Corner Page Bookmarks. I changed a couple of things on mine because I know that they will not last long enough for me to stress about a couple of the steps. I did not use a patterned triangle on the top because I felt like it was too busy and I wanted the pattern or different colored paper to be like the inside of the mouth. I traced the bottom of a large glue stick for the white part of the eyes and used the large dot on the black Zig Dotta-Riffic marker for the pupil. I skipped the iris because I think they look great without this extra step. Do what you want but I just wanted to share what I figured out along the way.

Easter Morning

Since the weather was so yucky on Easter morning, Bucky enjoyed doing some painting and egg coloring inside. He painted a little pot that has a butterfly on it and actually stayed on the butterfly this time. After his nap, he colored some eggs and put stickers and wraps on them. All in all he had a great time!

2nd Day of the New Year

Today was a good day. After a very relaxing, sleepy day yesterday today needed to be a good day. The weather has been rainy and dark which makes it even more difficult to get up and go. However, this morning we did prints of the kiddos, took some pics with my mom and dad and both grandkids, and got some pictures put on the wall for my parents. Bucky and I then went to Sonny's for lunch with Mike and Lynn. Good food, horrible service - enough said. We enjoyed spending time with them after Bucky went through his usual "shyness" whenever he sees someone he kinda knows. They have big plans for the upcoming year and we are hoping everything works out like they plan. Right now, little man is down for a nap while I "pack" for our road trip to ATL followed by our flight to Denver. By "pack" I mean that I am obviously sitting down playing on my computer to avoid the inevitable task of packing our two suitcases, one carry-on, and one backpack with enough activities to keep a three year old busy on a 3 1/2 hour nonstop flight. I can do it; I have before; I just don't want to. So here I sit...But in the meantime, here are some pics from this morning.

Green Day

Not the band. Today was green day at Bucky's preschool. When the parents were let in to pick up our kids, all we heard was "Ribbit, ribbit, ribbit...." It was so cute and had me laughing so hard. The kids had made paper bag hand puppet frogs and they were singing a chorus for us.

One Potato, Two Potato...

We went to a playgroup today for potato stamping. I had no idea what that was when we headed that way but we all brought potato products to eat. Once we got there, everyone had such a good time. The hostess, Valerie, had cut the ends off potatoes and made them into shapes, such as star, heart, even a smiley face. The kids dipped the ends in paint and stamped them onto a piece of paper. Then they all made a Mr. Potato Head craft. She had cut out several of the pieces to glue onto a brown potato-shaped piece of paper. It was great! When it was almost time to go, the kids participated in a sack race. They were given commissary reusable grocery bags to step in and then hop down her front yard. They all had such a great time!

Mother's Day Craft Playdate

We went to a playdate on Friday, May 7 so Bucky could have some fun and make some things for me for Mother's Day. The first thing he did was paint and decorate a frame. He really enjoyed the painting. Next we did a flower pot with his handprint. I love that Valerie, the hostess, is so creative because both turned out really great!
