Horse Farm

On Saturday, a lady from our playgroup was having a Horse Show at her farm. Bucky and I went the 20 miles to meet Hubbell, Kevin, and Chase and enjoy the day. Well...it wasn't very entertaining. There was a Jumping Show where the horses jumped over a stick (thank you, Hubbell, for the description) - it was a rather large stick but was only about 6 inches off the ground. In other words, if you blinked, you missed it. I must have blinked a lot in the five minutes we tried to get the boys to watch the show b/c I never saw the horses jump. Bucky and Chase enjoyed seeing the mini-horses but Chase was too tired to deal with the larger horses. Bucky actually let me put him on the very large "pony" for a ride - don't worry, I held on tight the whole time. He was okay while the horse was moving but wanted off when it stopped. In fact, he waved and said "Hi" to another horse in the pasture next to the pony ride area. He did not seem tense at all but I think I had that area covered just fine. Thank you Kevin and Hubbell for taking some pictures of both of us since it's really difficult to do so by myself, especially when both hands are occupied holding on to my child for dear life. Bucky seemed to enjoy throwing the ball for the dog and running around more than anything else. I was disappointed that there wasn't more for his age group to do since it was made out to be a kid-friendly event, but I learned my lesson.

Jr. Museum on 9/15/08

I'm a little behind on blogging but here goes... We went to the Jr. Museum again last Monday. It's free so I try to take him about twice a month. Bucky played with Chase and Evelyn. Ethan was there, too, but he was being entertained by his mom's hand puppets :) . He loves the light pens. This room is dark but has pens that write with light on one of the walls. He knows how to hold the pen and his fine motor skills seem to soar when he is writing. Chase and Bucky both enjoyed throwing marbles into a large funnel where they would glow and spin around and around. While Bucky was throwing them, Chase walked to me with his hands held out. Usually when he does this, he thinks my legs are his mom's legs and quickly changes his mind when he looks up and realizes it isn't his mom looking down at him. This time he knew it was me so I picked him up. He let me hold him and then he put his head on my shoulder. It was so sweet!! Bucky saw us but quickly went back to his game. This action is very rare for Chase as he does not let many people besides his mom and dad love on him.

Mosley vs Bay

I took Bucky to the Mosley vs. Bay football game last Friday and he really seemed to enjoy himself. He ate popcorn for the first time (I turned my head and he reached into the bag). He cheered. He flirted. He was great! He loved listening to and watching the band. Everytime they started playing, he would turn and watch.

And They're Off!

At toddler skate on Friday, the worker decided to do some games with the babes. The first game was a race with their toys. Hubbell took Chase to the starting line, so Bucky and I followed. I figured since she was brave enough to put Chase up there, I would at least try. Chase wanted Bucky's toy for the race so we took Chase's. They are the exact same toy but completely different colors. Chase took off when the girl said "Go" while Bucky waited about 15 seconds and then slowly followed Chase. It was hilarious watching them "race" - Chase was thrilled...Bucky not so much. Take note of the kid in the top left corner of Chase's picture - that's Bucky!!

We also took notice of a biter on the premises. He bit the crap out of Jackson's arm - left teeth marks and everything. Then, about 30 minutes later, he bit Chase on the hand. Hubbell went to the table of moms who weren't paying attention and low and behold it was one of theirs. Imagine that - the kid belonged to a mom who wasn't even watching...hmmmm...

Love the Kitty

Bucky has grown very fond of our cat, Frodo, and Frodo doesn't seem too bothered by Bucky...a match made in heaven. Bucky loves to hug and pet Frodo and Frodo loves the attention as long as Bucky doesn't get too crazy with him. Bucky will climb on the couch (yes, he does this all by himself) to pet Frodo or say "Hi, Tiddy." We're still working on the "K" sound but we both know that the "tiddy" doesn't mind as long as he gets some gentle lovin'.

The morning after...

The morning after Bucky had his haircut it looked like he had stuck his finger in a light socket during the night. He had some wild hair happening and I couldn't do anything to it for it to lay down flat. For most of the morning, he looked like he was a streetkid but eventually it calmed down enough to comb it to the side so he looked like a loved kid. He also chose this morning to show me that he knows where his belly and belly button are. Such a sweetie!!

He's not a baby anymore

I took Bucky to get his first haircut yesterday. My mom went with us so I would have pictures to show. He was soooo good. He didn't cry or fuss at all. He was squirmy at the beginning because he felt her touching his ears. We got him interested in watching Shrek (the video game) and all was well. He even "played" it a little. Once Shrek ran into a tree he threw the controller so he was done with that. He sat very still until the end when he was ready to get up and run. They put his hair into a baggie and gave us a certificate with the date on it. It was all very sweet for his first haircut but I think I'll try a barber shop for half the price next time. I must say this, though, I didn't realize how much I ran my fingers through his hair until last night.

Daddy's Dog Tags

The other day, Bucky and I were in my room while I was changing clothes. He occupies himself quite nicely but I watch to make sure he doesn't grab anything dangerous. When we went into the living room, I noticed something around his neck. He had grabbed Buck's dog tags and had put them over his head and on his neck. He was so intrigued that he sat down and studied them a few minutes later. I think he misses his daddy.

Bucky had his 15 month checkup and shots on the 4th. He did very well...he only cried a little and didn't seem to have any effects from the shots. Apparently, though, he could develop a rash two weeks later b/c of the chicken pox shot or the MMR, both of which were new to him. But don't worry, I was told, this means his immune system is fighting it. Um...OK... He weighed 22 lbs and 6 oz and was 29 1/4" long. He is almost at 25th % for weight and is back on the charts at 5th % for height.

"Cheese"

This was a day of firsts for Bucky. He climbed into his chair as previously blogged and he learned two new words. The first was "lala" - "acorn" - I don't know what one has to do with the other but that's what he kept repeating. The second was "cheese." My mom was taking self-portraits of her and Bucky and said "Cheese." Next thing we know, Bucky said "Cheese." He continued to repeat it so I know that's what he was saying. It was soooooooo cute!!

My Chair

We went to my parents' house yesterday to do laundry yet again. Hubbell and Chase came by so we could discuss my Pampered Chef party details. I put some animal crackers on Bucky's tray for his booster chair. It was on the floor so they could reach the snacks. Next thing I know, Bucky has climbed into his chair and corralled all the animal crackers right in front of him. I couldn't believe he had been able to climb in and put his feet under the tray. Chase didn't seem bothered by this - he still went up and got a cookie when he wanted it. In fact, when the first batch was gone, Chase came to us, clapped and held his hands out - that's his way of saying "more." When they were finished eating, I helped Bucky out of the seat. Later he had climbed back into the chair for some reason and this is what we found. Crazy Kid!!

Meat is Good!!

My mom came over and watched Bucky while I went to the grocery store because it was raining a lot. She brought him a plain jr. hamburger from Sonic to feed him for dinner. Well, he decided he wanted to feed himself (and Rascal) so my mom gave him the whole hamburger. He was so excited and loved being able to hold it and take bites or tear off pieces for Rascal. This was definitely a picture moment.

Sleepy Tyke

Bucky has been a little congested lately and has, therefore, not been sleeping as well as I'd like. Last night, I was concerned that he would wake up coughing again and I was going to sleep with him in the recliner if needed. However, when I went to check on him, he was soundly sleeping.

Thanks Gustav

We, thank goodness, did not receive much weather today courtesy of Hurricane Gustav. Anna and Jimmy met Bucky and I at the mall today to get the boys out of the house and so we could get some exercise. (Plus today you could get free chick-n-strips if you wore your football team's logo - GO SEMINOLES!! - so we all at lunch for $6.) Anyway, we tried the balloon room at the arcade for $2/child. That lasted about 5 minutes - maybe. Bucky wasn't too thrilled with it and Jimmy wanted to get out and ride the cars. So we got them out and sat them at the free car games so they could "drive." Note to self: start with the free stuff next time ;). After that we went to the carousel for two. They enjoyed that more than anything. They were mainly just tired of being in their strollers. Then we made our way to our almost free lunch. We headed to Sears b/c I wanted to see if they had any toddler-sized football shirts. They didn't but they did have a realatively good sale. I bought Bucky some jeans and a 3 piece outfit that included a jacket for winter. I can't wait for cooler weather...not cold, just cooler. After that, he took about a 30 minute nap. He's not feeling 100% and it's hard for him to breathe well when he's laying down. I think and hope that it's just sinuses but I'm definitely keeping a close eye on him because I don't want a Christmastime repeat.
